How my sister April is more like Audrey Hepburn than she knows

Living in China with my younger sister was an unforgettable experience that I cherish to this day. When people think of China, they often imagine the Great Wall, traditional architecture, and bustling markets.

While these are all accurate, there is also a darker side to the country, with drugs sold on the streets and foreign prostitutes working in its nightclubs. Despite this, my sister and I found beauty in the chaos and embraced the freedom that came with living in Guangzhou.

To keep ourselves grounded, I suggested that we channel our inner Audrey Hepburn and ask ourselves, “What would Audrey do?” We watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s and made a pact to live our lives with the grace and elegance of Audrey. And we did try 😉

Now, 15 years later, my sister is a mother to two young boys, and I can’t help but notice how much she embodies Audrey’s best traits.

Here are the top 10 Audrey traits that my sister has mastered:

  1. Kindness: My sister has a heart of gold and always goes out of her way to help others.
  2. Grace: She carries herself with poise and elegance, even in the most chaotic situations.

  3. Compassion: She has deep empathy for others and always tries to see things from their perspective.
  1. Confidence: My sister exudes confidence and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.

  1. Creativity: She has a natural talent for design and a unique personal style and is always coming up with new ideas.
  2. Independence: My sister is fiercely independent and doesn’t rely on anyone else to make her happy.
  3. Resilience: She has faced many challenges in her life but always bounces back stronger than ever.
  4. Love: Above all else, my sister loves deeply and unconditionally, just like Audrey.

I wish my sister knew just how much she embodies Audrey’s spirit and how much I admire her for it. She may not realize it, but she is more like Audrey than she knows.

And here’s a vintage remix song for you 🙂 Happy Birthday ~!
